“This sody hurts my teef”

PSYCH I don’t drink sody. But ummm my wisdom tooth is coming in AGAIN and I don’t know how to deal because I am in a lot of pain whenever I eat anything. I had to give up on a BANANA the other day after 5 mini bites. Luckily I have kinky friends who don’t mind eating my spit…or catching it when I spit at them…ummmm ANYWAY the banana did not go to waste.
I’ve been doing a lot of juices. Saturday’s breakfast was Multigrain Cheerios and Life cereal mix with soy milk, after having sat and soaked to mush for a while, lunch was canned vegetable soup with some tofu chunks cut in and dinner was Bolthouse Farms VEDGE and an orange in the beautiful, beautiful sunshine.
And some beer. More than some. And a nice kid.
Todayyyy I had a wrap with sweet potatoes, tofu chunks, and cooked string beans and steamed asparagus on the side and another soaked bowl of cereal – some blueberry/flaxy/flakes and fiber worm thing from TJ’s. Also some random bread chunks and peanut butter and blueberry jam. Oh and dried apricots!
The tooth/gum isn’t bothering me so much anymore and I’ve probably already eaten enough for all day so maybe that’s it. Or maybe I’ll find some mush to eat later if I’m hungry. Until then, it’s water.
In other toothy-type news, I took the piercing out of my lip, sort of by accident, but I have to remember to take my vitamins to get the skin to heal. I want to get better. Oy.

So what do you guys eat when you can’t eat?

Bein’ Crazy

Bah. I haven’t been eating. Oranges and granola bars mostly. Doing a lot of drinking, though. A lot. But I finally made it home today so here’s a the first food in a while:
food-510
Some really delicious bread, tempeh, red pepper hummus, and lettuce sandywich! Ah I also ate some baby carrots and cashews.
Later, for dinner, I had a bit more tempeh with some BBQ sauce, more carrots, and a few cookies.
Yeah, this morning was pretty rough. A Nature’s Valley Granola Bar aka the only thing in the vending machine that I can eat kicked me straight though. I’m going to run tomorrow and hopefully eat some things.

Onto the Next

I finished the zine! I just have to print up a MAD LOT. Okay, I know the picture-taking has been slacking. Honestly, I’m not eating that much. Nor do I make it home a lot. It’s mostly been fruits here and there. I bought a carrot juice so I could have some vegetables in my diet, but it was pretty bad. Boo. They don’t sell any good vegetable juices near work and I don’t want V8s all the time.

Yesterday I had a Naked Juice Green Machine for lunch. I love those Naked juices! Then I drank after work and tried to make photocopies and…fucked up. Then I met my friend for a second and coming back, I bought raw cashews, Red Pepper hummus, and an apricot CLIF bar. Drunkhungry. I ate about half the fucking thing of cashews, which is GREAT seeing as how I’m trying not to eat fats, and also about half the container of hummus. Ugh. I’m disgusting when I drink. I also wasted so much paper.
food-504

And here’s today’s breakfast, which I had to force myself to eat since I have a half ton of nuts in my stomach right now. Raisins, half a banana, juice, and coffee.
food-507

With breakfast, I looked through the paper and check out the cover of the Times’ Dining section.
food-508 That’s not even meat, that’s an actual animal. “How I Learned to Love Goat”. I’m not going to get into it.

New Digs

Well, okay, not really. I’m still at the folks’. But I’m getting on that! Really!
BUT. I figured that as long as I’m here in Queens with parks and bikes and FitTV (ha!) and the weather is…getting…slowly…warmer, I’d make the best of a not-SO-terrible situation and actually get out and move. Lose a few. You know, bikini weather is just around the corner!
So, yeah, I been working out. What about it?
I went for a short bike ride yesterday through Forest Park, which I always miss, and I went for a short run the other week around the ‘hood. I meant to go again this morning, which would have been nice, but uuuugh. I did do a small standard workout: leg shit, push-ups, jumping jacks… I feel sort of lame about all of this. Oh well.
And the eats yesterday:
Breakfast: a small Gala apple that I’ve had forever, coffee
Lunch was a bunch of nibbles: about 10 baby carrots with mustard, three crackers (I actually kept to the serving size, ha!), 5 sundried tomatoes, a spoonful of pumpkin, a handful of raisins, a pear, and juice. The juice bears mentioning because I LOVE juice and even though I only really drink 100% juice, it is really high in calories and an 8oz cup of Peach Juicy Juice is 120 calories! Anyway. The pear was amazing. I always forget how much I love them.
For dinner, I tried to up the vegetables…so I had a cup of v8, more baby carrots, and I cooked up the last of my kale with a few halved cherry tomatoes. I trrriiiiied to stay light on the oil in sauteeing the kale, but my parents were eating it too, and they totally added more and cooked it longer! Ugh. Whatever. It was a light dinner, but I had two cups of tea after that. And maybe more raisins.
I’d like to start eating less and less the later in the evening so it was a start. I’m also on my period AGAIN so I don’t want to overdo the food.
That’s that.

Boo Ya

I’m back, baby.
I’m also, fairly pathetically, living with my parents for a little bit right now. Whatever.
Well, first, they eat meat and there’s not too much here for me. So I went shopping the other day.

food-002

That’s kale!, raisins, Gala apples, parsely, firm tofu, Wheat Thins, Pardina (?) lentils, tempeh, and canned pumpkin.

I’m wicked stoked for the kale – I want to make some of those kale chips I see everywhere. The tempeh and pumpkin is inspired by Kath Eats. I know it’s pumpkin and not pumpkin butter, but we’ll see how it suffices. I love pumpkin so I’m sure it’ll be fine. If not, I can throw it in EVERYTHING ELSE.

Okay, also, I’ve been working on my latest zine and a guy from work said he’d hekp out and draw a comic for one of my recipes, which I am excited about and I think is a really cute idea. So here’s the shit we used:
food-005

Nutmeg, garlic, parsley, lentils, oil, and chestnuts. Can you guess? Veganomicon’s Chestnut-Lentil pate. Yeah, we are just that fancy. So I loaded it up, along with my food processor, and got on a train to his place where we proceeded to drink and cook…and burn the chestnuts unbelievably. And I scalded a lot of water because I was nervous and blah blah ANYWAY, hopefully, he got the main idea…haha! It was fun, anyway. And, I mean, we ate it. It was..okay. It tasted kind of like gourmet dirt. But not in a bad way. Oy. Also, a lot of the chestnuts had gone bad. Like, dusty, moldy, green, toxic bad. But whatever. Thanks for hanging out, Burbs.

So that’s my that lately. Maybe I’ll go make some lunch and photograph it for y’all. I sort of want to run right now, too, but it looks cold out. Oh, Maud.

Andy on French Onion Dip

“You know, I’ve eaten almost an entire thing of dip today. That’s 1,000 calories right there…No cholesterol, though.”
“How is there no cholesterol in dip?”
“I don’t know. I have eaten about 2,500 milligrams of sodium, though.”
“How much percentage is that?”
“Well….a serving is 9%…and I’ve eaten about 15 servings today.”
“Hahahahahahahahah (I’ve been drinking). I’m going to write that on my food blog.”
“Ugh, don’t. That’s not even including the potato chips.”
“Hahahahahaha.”

“I’m going to go – “
“Jerk off?”
” – lay down and get fat.”

I wonder if he sees this and kills me. Nah, he’s too busy jerking off right now. And I gotta finish this whiskey bottle.

Just picture something well-presented, and then reverse it

Hey, remember when this existed? No, me neither. Well anyway, I seem to have misplaced my camera. It’s odd, because when I felt I had to post things, this was a chore, but lately, I’ve made a few things that I really wished I could have taken some pictures of.

Crazy things! Things you’d never think of! Well, maybe you would. I bought those Arnold’s Sandwich Thins that are making the rounds, and they taste a lot better than I thought they would. I mean, I like Arnold’s stuff in general, but “sandwich thin” screams tough and crusty to me, but they have a really bready texture. Which is good. I got the multigrain ones. On that, I spread some PB & Co. The Heat is On spicy peanut butter, some salad greens because they’re going to go bad, shredded carrot, sliced red onion, and some sliced sundried tomatoes. Wicked good. Except the sundried tomatoes are a little chewy, so when you bite into one, you have to take the whole thing with you.

Besides that, I bought some beets, inspired by my friend. I only bought two…because this is a tentative thing, but there’s so much I’m so excited to make with them. Too bad I only bought two. Meh. I made a nice salad with some raw shredded beet on top. It added something-something and also turned my hands pink which made me happy and feel accomplished.

Andy bought me a food processor for my birthday because he’s a doll, and unfortunately I’ve been wicked lazy and haven’t even taken it out of the box to ooh and aah at its silver blades. Chopped beet and homemade hummus are in the wings, though. Once I get a camera, we’ll be back in the New York groove.

Sad Food! Yay!

Okay, okay, okay kids! I KNOW, it’s been a while again. I was focusing on my paper-based love of food for a while, there. I finally finished my fifth food zine, and I’m happy about that. Maybe I can calm down a LITTLE bit, even though things have been pretty depressing/up in the air here lately.
Anyway, I might as well be out with it because it’s probably going to affect my cooking (either more than usual in an attempt to finish food off or less than usual out of depression): I’m moving out. I’m not sure when, but soon. So, happy and comfortable as I’ve been in this kitchen, I’m leaving soon-ish. Ah, well.  Sorry, boy. Taking the time I have, then, I have some goodfood things for you. Perhaps badly thought out because moving with food has always seemed weird to me, but I bought some nice groceries the other day, if only because we NEEDED some fresh greens and then I got caught up in “the hell with it.”

food-489food-490food-491
So, yeah. This was a lot of money. More obscenely so since I’ll probably be leaving it behind. But: broccoli, baby spinach, baby bellas, canned olives!, raisins, grape tomatoes, only 2 LB. carrots this time, Whole Wheat Wheat Thins, WW bread, Sabra’s Supremely Spicy hummus, multi-grain wraps, red peppers, Fuji apples, chunky! PB, PB & Co’s Cinnamon-Raisin PB, pumpkin butter, Road’s End dairy-free cheddar flavor shells and cheese, Philly-style Tofurky, FYH Mozz-style vegan cheese, wiiiiiiine. Yowza. Oh well. I was craving mac and cheese at work that night, and gave in to the expensive Manhattan health-food store before heading home to Superfood Town, where I knew I wouldn’t find some of those things.  Hmm…actually, I also bought Silk Unsweetened Soy Milk, but I guess it didn’t make it to the inventory shot.

Anyway, I needed to health-up the mac n’ cheese, so here’s that night’s dinner, with added chopped mushrooms and frozen spinach to the Mac N’ Cheese, along with the Yellow Tail Merlot:
food-493

And, well, today is my birthday. Here is the birthday breakfast. (Hey! I also bought PB Puffins but somehow those didn’t make it either? Weird! Well, not so weird, considering what a lush I am.)

food-496

PB Puffins with 1/2 sliced banana with unsweetened soy and a shit lot of coffee with more soymilk.

Lunch was necessary and kind of low-key. Fairly tasty, but probably too much at once:
food-497
A WW wrap with baby spinach, 3 slices of Tofurky, shredded carrot, sliced FYH, chopped mushrooms, chopped grape tomatoes, sliced olives, avocado chunks, red onion, and Frank’s Red Hot. With water in the Shea cup.

I drank a lot of tea after that and am still pretty full so I don’t feel like dinner. Andy-boy made a meal but I commenced on drinking instead. Here’s what I WOULD have had for a birthday dinner if I’d given in (veganize it):
food-499
Spaghetti with homemade sauce and steamed sliced carrots. His had Parmesan cheese as well.

I don’t know what else to say. I have a backlog of things to post for you, and maybe I’ll go into supermode for you to use up the things I have here, but keep in mind I was going to make myself some birthday cookies, but started crying instead. Egh.

Souped-up Soup

Tres ways! It’s winter. It’s cold. I made soups.

My starting point was Pumpkin/Squash, this being the time of,. Monday (?) night I realized I hadn’t eaten anything all day and very little the night before so when I got back to the ‘hood, I bought some food at the local health food place, Tony’s, which I love and love to support but am not too happy about price-wise but, as I said, I was hungry. I bought Veggie Bootie which I used to love getting in High School am I’m not sure I’ve had since, Tofutti Cuties, a can of Amy’s Low-Sodium Butternut Squash soup, Low Sodium Ezekiel Bible Bread, and Wheetabix Fiber cereal. It was a fair amount of money but I didn’t take a picture and can’t find the receipt so let’s just pretend it never happened. Except for the fact that I ate TWO Tofutti Cuties in one night, I’ve been eating the Wheetabix for breakfast every morning and have totally been pooping nicely, and the Squash soup MADE my nights.

There are two servings in a can. The first night I souped it up with shredded Brussels sprouts, boiled carrots, and a few boiled red onion slices. It was delicious, but as you can see, a little bit thin for my usual liking. I’ve had it alone before and it was fine, too, but I also wanted a few more added nutrients. A bite of Bible Bread on the side.

food-475

The next day, for lunch, I thickened it up because I’m used to eating blended-based soups rather than broth-type. Again with the nutrients. And leftovers. I tossed in a few chunks of roasted pumpkin stuffed with corn from Thanksgiving, stirred it up (not even blended!), and dripped some Tabasco in for heat. I might have also added garlic powder? It was nice for before I ran out the door yesterday.

food-478

But if that was a LUNCH, this tonight’s was definitely a DINNER. So many extras! I’ve gained a bit of weight lately and even with that number aside, I KNOW I’ve been eating too much and too much bad shit and at bad times. So I had the Wheetabix with unsweetened soy milk and a few raisins for breakfast along with a spoonful of peanut butter. The not so healthy kind. Then I didn’t have lunch. But dinner was all vegetables and all happy. I had finished the can of soup, but in keeping with the squash trend, I brought out the leftover broth from when I made seitan about a week ago, added some water to thin it out. Then I threw in 1/3 of a block of frozen spinach, 1/3 cup roasted pumpkin with corn (Thanksgiving), 1/2 cup chopped tomato, and 1/2 cup chopped portabella mushroom. I let it all simmer to a boil and ate that shit! Oh boy, it was so good! And pretty healthy, I think. Minus the sodium and little bit of olive oil. On the side I had a whole sliced carrot with tahini and some TJ’s Shiraz. I picked up 3 bottles today after work for under ten bucks. Very nice. I added a slice of Bible bread to dip into the soup post-photo.
food-479food-482

Yeah! I love when steam gets photographed! It’s like I’ve just caught a ghost!

Alright, that’s it for now. I still have a few leftover pics, so maybe this weekend, I’ll hand those off. Peace and warmth. The holidays are really here!

It Gets Even Better

More uses for the weird sauce…pasta sauce! I mixed it with pumpkin and spinach one night, and the next night, I actually cooked it up in a pan with more pumpkin, onion and garlic, a tad more cornstarch, and served it over spaghetti (actually I think it was thin linguine, but who cares?) and shredded carrot! Weird but wicked fucking delicious. I also chopped a bit of tomato on top. God, they were both so good. I definitely need to remember to stock up on canned pumpkin. The pictures are less than glorious, though. Just trust me on this one.

food-445food-448

Next up is Thanksgiving prep. I LOVE Thanksgiving, as most of the food bloggers do…It’s a culmination of food, family, and fall. I love it all. (Alliteration AND rhyme. I’m a poet and I didn’t even know it. Well I did. But I don’t like to blab.)
Oh, but…a little disappointment on this one: I went a little over my Thanksgiving challenge cap, JUST A LITTLE, and as soon as I do that, I get really bummed and just throw everything out the window. So bah. I failed. Big surprise. This haul itself..hmm..I have the receipt around here somewhere, but seriously, it was like $154 dollars.  Oh boo. Anyway, yeah, here’s some of what I needed for my parts of the meal. Can you guess what I made? Probably not because I didn’t get everything necessary on this trip.
food-453food-454

Apple cider (I already had to drink some), apples, olive oil, unsweetened soy milk, raisins, brown sugah, paprika, allspice…canola oil, 2 packages of chopped frozen spinach, frozen squash, tomatoes, red peppers, bread. And for the record – I mean, I know a little goes a long way and they last a long time – but spices are fucking expensive. Makes me think of when cinnamon was used as currency because it was so rare. Oh well. Apparently EVERYTHING I make is going to have paprika on it from now on.

To this, I had to supplement eggplant (I’m glad I didn’t buy them at SuperFoodTown because they were 1.99/lb. there, and 69 (hehe) cents each at the grocery on the street. Although that place freaks me out…), more potatoes (we had a few already), red peppers (by accident – I couldn’t remember if I’d already bought them. Boo.), and fresh squash (I probably shouldn’t have bought the frozen ones in the first place. Also the spinach wasn’t for Thanksgiving. I’m the worst at food shopping). If you can’t figure it out by now, you’re stupid. Just kidding! Ah don’t hate me! I made ratatouille, Herb-Scalloped potatoes (Veganomicon), and Apple Crumb muffins (VWaV). Yay!

Here are complementary photos:

Sorry for the shitty, “I eat in a hospital cafeteria” looking leftovers, rather than our casual-but-pretty table layout, but again with the photos in public. The ratatouille was good! It was my first time making it, and I almost fucked it up but my mommy helped. Also, everyone liked the muffins! Vegan baking success! Lotsa wine, too.

I’ve got more stuff for some other time, but I don’t want to oversate your already incredibly sated bellies. Boo-ya.
